The LinkedIn mission statement is to connect the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful. LinkedIn states it on its About page. A separate vision line covers economic opportunity for the global workforce.
Where does the LinkedIn mission statement come from?
LinkedIn is a professional network that Microsoft bought in December 2016, as reported by TechCrunch, and the LinkedIn mission statement sits on its About LinkedIn page. Older documents and other LinkedIn pages repeat the LinkedIn mission and vision.

Many analysis pages lag behind these sources. FourWeekMBA still cites more than 850 million members, and Business Strategy Hub, last modified in March 2025, names Ryan Roslansky as CEO. The About page text I saw also still credits Roslansky with leading the business.
LinkedIn mission statement vs vision statement
The mission says what LinkedIn does for members, while the vision says what outcome it wants for the global workforce. The LinkedIn vision statement, as the careers page words it, is "create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce."
Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn's CEO until 2020, treats the two as separate jobs. In a First Round Review interview he says "vision is the dream" and describes the mission as how the company pursues it.
People still mix them up. The text on LinkedIn's own Glassdoor profile calls the vision line a mission, so a quote labeled "LinkedIn mission statement" is worth checking against the About page.
Why does the LinkedIn mission statement read the way it does?
Weiner has said mission and vision statements often turn generic, so he pushed for ones that belong to LinkedIn alone. In his LinkedIn Learning course he notes that employees and industry watchers could recite both of LinkedIn's lines.
He also says LinkedIn went years without a clear core value proposition, and that some companies treat mission and value proposition as the same thing.
A quick test for any LinkedIn mission statement reading: could the sentence belong to another company? The word "professionals" narrows it to working people, which fits a business that sells memberships, advertising and recruitment solutions, as the About page describes.
What does the LinkedIn mission statement mean, part by part?
The LinkedIn mission statement has three working parts: connection, productivity and success. The split below is analyst interpretation, not LinkedIn's own text.
• Connect: profiles, messaging and introductions between professionals.
• Productive: FourWeekMBA files LinkedIn Learning courses here, with topics such as remote presentations and managing stress.
• Successful: job search and hiring. The LinkedIn mission statement itself sets no success metric.
Analysts do not split the sentence the same way. FourWeekMBA reads connection, productivity and success, while Business Strategy Hub reads connecting businesses, upgrading lives and enhancing productivity.
Which LinkedIn core values support the LinkedIn mission statement?
LinkedIn's careers page lists five shared values, and the first one repeats the LinkedIn mission statement almost word for word. All five are paraphrased below.
|
Value |
What the careers page says it means |
|
Members first |
Decisions favor what makes members more productive and successful |
|
Trust and care |
Start from trust, with respect, compassion, honesty and integrity |
|
Open, honest, constructive |
Seek the truth and welcome feedback to solve hard problems |
|
One LinkedIn |
Decide like an owner and put the whole company above any part |
|
Diversity, inclusion, belonging |
Welcome different perspectives, since talent is widespread but access to opportunity is not |
Comparably's profile lists a sixth value about dreaming big and having fun, while the current careers page files that idea under culture. Comparably's undated survey page, with 899 employee participants, reports that 83% of respondents are motivated by LinkedIn's mission, vision and values.
Has the LinkedIn mission statement changed since the Microsoft deal?
The LinkedIn mission statement reads the same on the About page in 2026 as it did on a 2014 company slide. The changes below did not rewrite it.

Weiner wrote that he and Satya Nadella found they had "virtually identical mission statements" in purpose. The Microsoft mission statement is about empowering every person and organization to achieve more.
How measurable is the LinkedIn mission statement?
The LinkedIn mission statement has no number or deadline in its wording. That sits awkwardly with Weiner's own test, which says a mission should be measurable and realizable.
Analysts fill the gap with proxies such as member counts. Membership is a reach figure, though, and says little about whether members became more productive. That reading is mine, not LinkedIn's.
Anyone writing about the LinkedIn mission statement should label such proxies as analysis. A tighter mission would name a measure, and LinkedIn's does not.
What to do with the LinkedIn mission statement
The LinkedIn mission statement is short, stable and easy to cite from the About LinkedIn page. Next step: copy the sentence from that page, add the date you viewed it, and keep it apart from the vision line.
FAQs
How many members does LinkedIn have?
LinkedIn's About page says more than 1 billion members in more than 200 countries and territories. Entrepreneur reported on October 5, 2026 that membership grew from 700 million to 1.3 billion during Roslansky's six years as CEO.
Who leads the company behind the LinkedIn mission statement?
Dan Shapero, named CEO on April 22, 2026, according to CNBC. Microsoft said on October 1, 2026 that Shapero continues as CEO while Roslansky leaves Microsoft at the end of the year.
How should I cite the LinkedIn mission statement?
Cite the About LinkedIn page and add the date you viewed it. Quote only the mission sentence, and label the vision separately so readers do not confuse the two.
Does the LinkedIn mission statement mention jobs?
No. The sentence names professionals, productivity and success, and never says jobs, hiring or learning. Analysts connect those products to it by interpretation.
